Because I’ve proved yet again that I kill plants, the formal living room got a new addition this weekend.
Michelle asked us to join in a blogsphere paint roundup. Go check it out here and see what colors bloggers are loving in their homes. Awesome right? What wasn’t awesome was this guy.
He’s been on a slow decline. At one point I actually thought he was thriving in our house. Then he got sick. And died. I thought I can’t take a picture for Michelle with a dying plant, so off to Home Depot we went. (Thank you Michelle for making us rid our house of this dying thing.)
Home Depot had Fiddle Fig trees for $15. I have been wanting one since we got the planter, so it worked out perfectly. (Ignore the piles of mess in the garage. I’ve been purging around here but won’t bored you with it.)
We are thinking that the reason 2 plants have died in our Modernica Planter is because of a drainage issue (#shifttheblame). This time around we got some pond pebbles to hopefully alleviate that problem.
Put a little soil buffer before you put your plant in. (Take note of the cute husband’s shoes. Also planting in white tennies probably isn’t a smart play. Yes that is the correct plural of tennis shoes. I googled it.)
Next we put our Fiddle Fig in the planter and covered it with soil making sure to pack it down.
And there you go. A healthy for now Fiddle Fig for our formal living room. Even if it’s the planters fault for killing our plants (99% sure it isn’t), I am obsessed with the Modernica. It’s so simple and beautiful.
Stay tuned to see what gets planted next in about 3-4 months. I kid…but seriously just wait.
Don’t forget to go to Michelle’s to check out paint and get the details on our living room color and why we love it.
the new plant looks so lively! i am known to kill plants. it’s not intentional…. i start out loving and hugging and squeezing… but unlike my children who i am able to keep alive, they don’t beg me for attention, water, food, etc…. so i forget. it’s a good thing my children have those skills.
Haha that is the problem! Clearly it’s the plant’s fault for not asking for what it needs. I needed the perspective today. Thanks! Please remind me of this when I kill this one.
Thanks for the link love. I also love being a good influence in the spending department. I’m always super helpful at that.
I’ve been pondering the fiddle fig. What kind of blogger would I be if I wasn’t? Let me know how this guy survives.
Well luckily everything was under $20 and has been on the to do list for months, so we needed some kind of influence!
You would be no kind of blogger at all if you didn’t at least think of adding a fiddle fig. Spoiler alert: the plant dies. I will let you know when it’s official. Fingers crossed I’m wrong. Actually instead of crossing my fingers I should just water it.
You’re not the only plant killer in the world. I tried growing tomatoes, the easiest plant to tend for, and killed them within a month.
I tried tomatoes once too. I got a few to ripen (they were already on the plant when I bought it). Then it died, but I still count that as a win though. I have killed multiple succulents which everyone swears you can’t kill. Ha. Jokes on them because I can.
Plant killers unite! I am sure you have see how I am decorating with all fakes around here. That is for a reason ha ha. I love that fiddle fig. I want one. Looks really good. I hope the pebbles at the bottom do the trick!
I hope so too! You should get one now, so we can see whose dies first! 😉
$15?! My Home Depot only has giant Fiddle Leaf Fig TREES that they want $169 for. I’ll admit that I almost bought one but I didn’t think I could fit it in my car so it stayed behind. I’m still on the hunt for a baby one though!
I know I couldn’t believe it either! Although none of them look like they were thriving, so I have little faith in it’s ability to stay alive here. However it’s $15 so worth a try! I can’t justify any significant amount of money on plants because I know they will somehow die.
