Nick is always noticing awesome things in restaurants and coffee shops, so it’s no surprise our next tutorial is inspired from an art piece from Weekend Coffee in Dallas. As soon as he saw it, he wanted to re create one for Ramona’s room.
We weren’t 100% sure what we would use for the wooden spikes. Would we sand some sticks down? Find Buffy and question her about her sources for vampire stakes?? Luckily it was way less complicated when I came across these jumbo knitting needles (similar).
Once the needles were found, it was all too easy. We chose our palette.
Nick drilled in the top of the needles, so we could string them up.
Originally we had planned on using leather to string the piece together, but it was too thick for the metal piece we had on hand. It was something we had lying around from our never ending chandelier building project from Grand Brass. Thus the wall art was strung with some jute string.
We painted the needles at varying lengths using trusted frog tape.

Ramona’s tribal wall art is hanging out in her reading corner. There have been a few changes in her room. We did get a new rug for her room because the original one clashed with the crazy DIY drapes I made at the last minute to finish up for the Fall in Love challenge.
oh, that’s so cool! it looks perfect in that space. And now I want some oversized knitting needles. I have no idea what I’d do with them, but I totally want some.
I have no idea how to knit, but using those to effectively create anything other than this tribal art is beyond my comprehension!
LOVE this! i wondered when you would share it! yay to blogging! ๐
Haha yeah I still have her curtain tutorial to share. Nothing like sitting on content from last year! ๐
Gorgeous!!! I love that you used enormous knitting needles for this – I would have never thought of that! And I feel like that Buffy reference was intended just for me, so I feel special Perhaps you can do a guest post on “The Gathered Home & Buffy” on vampire stake craft projects?
Haha best round up ever! I did think of you when I wrote that, so take credit friend!
Such a fun piece – I love it!
Thanks Jennifer!!
I love this project – super trendy and really fun.
Thanks Kim! Pretty much sums up Nick. ๐
So cool! I love the color palette you chose. Ramona’s room is still one of my favorites!
Thanks Caitlin!! When it’s clean, it’s my favorite too. Of course it’s rarely clean. ๐
So love it! It’s the coolest reading nook/girls room ever.
I may or may not go in there to read when the kids are at school. ๐
Wooden knitting needles?! Who even knew such a thing existed? I bet Buffy is pissed that she DIDN’T know they existed.
I love the color selections. It’s so cheery and chic. Ramona (and Beckett) are blessed to have parents with such great style.
Yeah I had no clue about those existed. They completely caught me off guard at Michaels, and I was pretty overjoyed. Embarrassingly so. By admitting to that I think I ruin any chance that my kids will notice my style as cool. They will be constantly ashamed of the nerdiness.
You are totally killing it with the colors…love, love, love…how tribal of you willscasa…
It is a great color scheme. The entire piece is just awesome. Way to go Nicholas!
OMG! I could never imagine using my 50’s for anything besides knitting-but that is too cute! Might have to steal the idea for future usage! Thank you. P.S. that room is gorgeous! I love those curtains too!
Steal away! It would be cute anywhere in a house! Those curtains were definitely a labor of love and the coolest thing I’ve ever done!
Well, those curtains are amazing! I’m thinking I will use the plastic 50’s because they are easier to find and cheaper too! Plus I won’t feel as guilty using them for art instead of knitting! Thank you again! P.S. I shared the article and your site with my Fiber Arts Group.
Thanks so much! I appreciate the love!
