Remember how I (very casually) mentioned Nick was really into coffee? That + Intelligentsia coffee are responsible for the rest of this story. And why I can function in the morning. But mainly those gorgeous tiles.
Yes that is our same Blue and White tile all over Intelligentsia Coffeebar in Silver Lake. If you are a coffee nerd, these tiles will pop up in your instagram feed. When we saw them, we had to have them…like one needs coffee in the morning.
There was some debate on if we should do the blue and white or the black and white option. I was nervous about doing the entire bath. I tire of patterns easily, and it’s not exactly a cheap. Oh the decisions! We settled on blue (go bold or go home) and just doing the floor of the shower (maybe not too bold). We ordered 38 square feet of the Fez tile from Granada Tile.
The shower angles in, so we had to figure out the placement of the pattern. We could 1) have it square up with the entrance and be at a 45 degree angle throughout the shower space (bottom option) or 2) the entrance could be at a 45 degree angle and the pattern would be squared up with the shower area.
We decided to angle in the entry since the shower part is the largest area. It made the most sense to have the pattern squared there. Plus angling in leads your eye into the shower.
*Just note the floor hasn’t been cleaned which explains the dullness on some of the blue. I just couldn’t wait to show you. Who knows when they will finish and clean the shower. I didn’t have supplies at the house or I would have.

It’s so bold with the classic white subway tile and shower head. I look at this and just think I’m going to have so many shower in there.
So beautiful! I’m regretting not doing the entire bathroom floor. The tiles are cement and super heavy which explains the shipping costs. They are supposed to open a store in Houston soon in which case I will redo the entire house, so look for that post.

It’s GORGEOUS! I love the patterned tile with the white subway tile and the dark fixtures. This is going to be one beautiful bathroom.

I didn’t know either! A whole new world has just opened up. I don’t think I’ll tire of the pattern. My love just keeps getting stronger…such a weird thing to say about tile.
I love it! My Will is lusting over this blue tile – he’s been talking about it ever since your first post about it. We’ve got new flooring for both bathrooms on our list of projects for the house (it’s around #7 on the list, so it may be awhile), and I think there’s a good chance we may try something like this. I’m not a big pattern girl, but you may have swayed me. I love how it’s only in the shower – gives the bathroom a pop without being too overwhelming.

Do you have a quick link to that shower head? I want to compare it to the one I just found. I think I like yours better if it comes in nickel finish…. Depending on the price of course
Here’s the link for the shower head. This is the valve control. It’s an incredible price for something so solid. We wish we would have mounted them higher, but we didn’t realize how much they float the tile floor. The plumber knew we were using these. He should have adjusted it accordingly but didn’t. It’s not a huge deal just a note for anyone looking to install them. I guess this means we can’t sell the house to someone in the NBA.
Oh. My. Goodness. That tile is insane. It’s great that you were brave enough to use something so bold. I like to think that I could too but I don’t know… I do love to drool over other people’s use of pattern though!
Haha you totally could! I believe. I just told myself it was a small area and if I hated it after a while I could change it. Small steps I guess.
So you need to know that I just spent about 2/3 of my recent yoga class daydreaming about your new tile and not focusing on inner peace or whathaveyou. It looks amazing! You should be proud of your decision-making abilities.
All your recent great work has led me to a question. Because you’ve built from the ground up, what did your timing, choice, and sourcing process look like? Did you have to methodically go room by room, or focus on material (all tile, all countertops, etc.) and then go from there? As someone who agonizes for months over drawer pulls, how did you handle all of that?

I feel like I could write a book to answer the rest of this comment. We are going to have to write a blog post to go over it. I think these are incredible questions and absolutely something that most people approaching a build or reno have to think about. So my answer right now is can I get back to you on that one?

Oh look at that tile! It is speaking sweet nothings to my Greek heart. … Am I the only one that thinks this is reminiscent of Greece? Maybe it’s just the Pulos in me talking. I love it. It was worth the splurge. I would be worried about how high the water bill would be since you’re obviously never going to get out of the shower. What motivation is there when you can stand on something so swoon-y?
Eventually we will be on a well then we won’t have a crazy water bill. Always thinking ahead! It looks Spanish to me, but there probably a lot of overlap there.
Great. Now I just have well-envy.

Love the tile! The pattern is crazy nice and the blue was a great choice. It’s refreshing to see something so different in a shower. Now I’m going to have look up the black and white colour way too.
All of their tiles are amazing! We’ve got a few other places we’d like to incorporate them into the house.

That shower looks incredible. I wish we would have done the whole bathroom. I was too scared, but it is truly a pattern that you can’t get sick of. We have another project in mind with a different Granada tile that promises to be even more beautiful and bolder than I would have attempted before. I can’t wait to get that one started. I’m about to commit to some Grenada tile in my master bath.. I remembered this post- so, do you still like it? How’s it holding up in the shower? Did u need to seal it? Did you need a special grout? I wish I could do my whole kitchen floor but hubs says no. What’s your next Granada project? Is it as addicting as I think it is? 😉
Well our shower floor currently has zero tile. We just got a call that the tile is set to arrive tomorrow morning. 1.5 blog posts worth of drama to be written but: I absolutely love that tile. I would still do it again (and actually am). You have to do a penetrating seal on it, so follow their installation guide exactly. Don’t listen to the hubs 😉 My next project with them is so far down the list of things to do it makes me sad.
