As you know, I’m doing the Fall in Love challenge with some besties which means that my daughter will finally have a big girl room. Ramona is a nearly 5 year old girl in 2014, so obviously her room is going to decorated with woven textures, gold, wicker, neon…the usual. Right now we are thinking that we will leave the walls white and decorate around that before we commit to any painting.
Her twin size iron bed in all its chipping green paint glory will stay that green for now. We did talk about powder coating it, but this has apparently become a game of let’s see how well we can work with what we have. Her sheet are Kate Spade polka dots picked up from Home Goods. The duvet was a Christmas present right off the clearance section of H&M home. It was crazy cheap and is probably the most fitting cross stitch saying for Ramona so much so I’m starting to worry she actually thinks every day is her birthday.
Who doesn’t want a wicker hanging chair in their room? Ramona slips off for hours to read (typically to Beckett’s little reading space), so we knew we needed to make space in her room for this. We ordered this hanging chair (affiliate link) because if you need a reading nook might as well hang a chair to get one.
I am loving the Riad Wool rug from West Elm. This is the option for now unless something more spectacular shows up between now and November 3rd.
I absolutely love Gilit. She is the mastermind behind the Bannerie. I asked her if she would make a banner that said “Something Clever” so I could let everyone know Ramona will have gold bannerie goodness in her room. I haven’t decided what I wanted it so say, but I assure you it will be something clever or original or a total give up. Either way it will look amazing.
As far as the other decor, I am going to attempt a woven wall hanging. I love the colors of that one. Brynne has a great tutorial, but I might actually weave one. We have a geometric neon DIY art thing planned that I’m excited to pull off. That hummingbird hook has a ton of significance, but we will see how we are doing budget wise. We already have the gold birds.
With Ramona starting Kindergarten next year (gasp), I want to give her a space to work on home and creative. Plus she’s really into writing things down and making cards right now which means there are paper and markers everywhere in this house. We are very up in the air about how to approach this – wall mount desk or vintage secretary (that’s been in the garage forever)?
So as I’m writing this and composing the plan for her room pretty much by the seat of my pants, I’m realizing we have a lot to work with and even more to do. Better get on that because I have a deadline to make!
Can I have a big girl room that looks like this??? lol. I love that little desk option, really unique but looks inexpensive and practical!
I want one too. I wonder what it would take to convince Nick?
I love your plan! Ramona’s going to have the chicest room!
Well she is the chicest girl I know, so it’s fitting!
Yay, those plans are so so awesome!!!
Thanks now let’s see how the execution goes…
I LOVE it!! As I knew I would. I love that hanging chair you chose. I bet Ramona is excited about that. B has been asking for a hanging chair, but there is no more room in his room for one. Oh well…
Can’t wait to follow along on this!
Oh she’s totally excited. It arrives Monday, and I’m afraid she is going to tear down the ceiling with that thing. I wonder if that type of thing is covered in our 1 year builder warranty?
I love the hanging chair! I am looking for something similar on our screened in porch. Will look it up!
I was surprised at how reasonable it was. The reviews say it’s small, but I figure that’s the best play in her room. Also when she has friends over, there will be less temptation to pile on it. Once it’s up, I’ll sit in it for scale!
oh i love love love it! i have those brass birds in my dining room! and i love all of the textiles, neon, and wicker of course for any almost 5 year old! and we also did white in emmy’s room so we could play as much as we waned with everything else. Love!
Yeah I figure it’s going to get real out of hand with the colors in here fast, so might as well keep it white and add color later if we don’t have enough which is pretty much a joke.
These plans are awesome! I’m so excited! 😉
Thank you Ashley!! I am too!!
I’m not sure who’s more excited about this: me or Ramona. Okay, probably Ramona. But I am ALSO excited. I can personally attest that hanging chairs make great kid reading spots :). And do you think the irony would be lost on Ramona if you just actually hung up a sign that read, “Something Clever”? Probably. Maybe when she’s 15?
Part of me really just wants to stick with “something clever” because it’s ironically hilarious. She totally won’t get it though. Plus it would likely just be perpetuating her sarcastic tendencies.
I am in love with any shaggy pile wool rug so the one you picked gets a double-thumbs up from me. It is just perfect for little feet in the morning:) I totally agree Ramona needs her own creative space…complete with a little laptop so she can blog of course…hahahahaha….
Oh gosh! She has a leapfrog computer that says “new blog entry” when you hit some button. I’m like nooooo too young.
OMG, I can’t wait for you to see my Monday post, because I just might have something that is absolutely perfect for Ramona’s room… (And thank you for shouting out my wall hanging *hugs & kisses*)
LOVE this moodboard and I love all your ideas for the space. The Ramona the Brave print is genius!
Will you adopt me so I can have you design the perfect bedroom for me?
It’s actually the book! We bought a copy a long time ago and will need to work it in somewhere. I might frame/hang the cover. The jury is still out.
I would totally be into adopting you, but I am pretty sure you can design a pretty stellar room yourself! Can’t wait to see Mondays post!
I’ll be living with Ramona in her new room so make sure to add another bed please!! So gorge and I adore you!!!!!
Thank you sweet friend! I will just have to create a room just for you!
Sigh…can you plan Layla’s big girl room too? She was booted from the nursery and everything I planned for her room looks a HAM and we are back to the drawing board. My first pinterest fail fa sho!
Don’t worry Ramona is about to be 5 and she hasn’t ever had a big girl room. You’ve still got time!
Wow, this is a (5 year old) dream room! Could it be any more perfect?! Love every single touch you’re going to make. Good luck in the making-of, I’m sure she’ll adore it!
Thank you! Let’s just hope the execution is as good as it is in my head!
Um, do they make that duvet in king size? Because…. I know that I need to start everyday like it’s my birthday.
I love your plans for her room. I feel like I have a sense of her personality by the items you have picked.
Yep crazy and very loosely planned pretty much sums up Ramona! 😉
